Prelude to Kickoff: The Randy Olympics

Not that you get any awards for looking good early in the season, but the San Francisco 49ers looked like a complete team in Green Bay in Week 1.

And there was off-season acquisition Randy Moss making his presence felt, hauling in a red-zone touchdown from Alex Smith in the first half.

The secret to his success, and maybe the success of the entire receiving corp in San Francisco?

Swimming.

To keep his 35 year old body in game shape, Moss hit the pool daily at the 49ers’ training facility during camp1, and has encouraged his teammates to do the same; to the point that there was over 30 players in the pool at the same time.

Said rookie wide receiver Chris Owusu: “If Moss is doing it, you got to do it, especially as a young receiver. You want to emulate everything that he does because he’s been to the top, he’s a Hall of Fame receiver, so you got to go out and do what he does.”

Randy Moss as team leader. Anything is possible this season in San Francisco.

Footnotes:

1In other news, there’s also a synchronized swimming play by play announcer named Randy Moss, which has absolutely nothing to do with anything except that it felt like a coincidence worth mentioning.
